We are proud to be associated with the NHS for over 60 years.
A&A Studios has been contractors to the NHS nationwide since 1946. We are responsible for standardising and updating the categories of hairpieces which are now used by the NHS throughout the UK. Our company plays an important part in negotiating with the UK Authorities.
With over 60 years’ experience of working with NHS patients and their hair problems, we ensure that we offer a wide range of solutions, hair pieces and wigs. In fact, our product range is the largest available in the UK.
If hair loss is due to chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment, the Oncology department will ask us to supply, fit and style a ready-to-wear wig for the patient.
Hospital dermatology i.e. skin departments, treat patients referred by their GPs for scalp problems and hair loss of all kinds. Where appropriate, an order will be issued for a patient to obtain partial or full hair pieces and renewals as necessary.
At the moment, the supply of hair pieces and wigs is interpreted differently by NHS England, Scotland and Wales. With the exception of Wales, prescription charges are payable unless the patient is exempt. Recently, charges in Scotland have decreased.
All patients have access to our vast array of ready-to-wear, soft synthetic wigs. NHS prescriptions for real hair wigs or hair pieces are generally only issued for patients who are deemed to have a “clinical need”. However, A&A staff is always pleased to offer patients advice on all types of products, including real hair wigs and hair pieces.
